A cartoon explanation of why we need a public health insurance option. Now that the health care bill has passed, my friend Andy Lubershane (the animator) has made another video about a topic near and dear to my heart: Climate and Energy. Please check it out here: www.youtube.com Animated by Andy Lubershane. @tmac9938 Europe is in deep shit? Err, define deep shit, please. And the fact that both Europe AND the US are in “deep shit” (which you admit) pretty much proves that it has nothing to do with universal health care.

    Try again?

  2. tmac9938 says:

@ericleb01 ok the EU is in deep shit, not most of the member countries independently.

let me hit my same argument from a diff angle. the US became a world power in less than 200 years solely because of the free market and limited government. ever since we started tweaking with the federal gov’t, america has been on a decline. medicare will speed the decline. we’re broke. face it. having national healthcare will not dig our country out of the shithole it’s in. its just not important.

  3. ericleb01 says:

@tmac9938 It hasn’t been “ever since you tweaked the system”, it’s just the general decisions your government has been making. In fact, your debt was fine until 1985, when it skyrocketed from around 3 trillion dollars to 12 trillion in 25 years. That’s way after you started tweaking your gov’t. I’m not very educated in this, so I can’t tell you what did or when.

The video also describes perfectly why you would rather be in debt than de-socialize your fire department or your police department.

  4. SamBuchser says:

@ericleb01 YOU GET THE POINT! not only are they (Europe) all bankrupt, but they’ll sooner pay to euthanize then help a lot of people. They have waiting list of anywhere from months to YEARS to get simple surgery; surgery that, if was done in the states with our current health care system, could be done in less than a month.

Thank you for the excellent point, Tmac, but refrain from the cursing (don’t lower yourself to their level).

  5. SamBuchser says:

back to ericleb01, firstly, do your research. until Hussein Obama became President, we weren’t even in the trillions. when Obama came in, he jacked up the debt to the trillions (just a reminder of how big a trillion is, $1,000,000,000,000) and we pay for it, in one form or another. Well, YOU probably don’t. you’re probably living off Gov’t living right now anyways, so already i’m paying for your expenses….

  6. SamBuchser says:

..anyone who KNOWS what is actually going on in the gov’t knows that when they say “the government pays for it”, what they mean is” we hike up your taxes and you pay for it”. NEXT TOPIC, You’re both mistaken in saying “USA is in deep S***. We can still rise back up. we dont have to fall for the Govt crap. we just need another AMERICAN in the office. don’t fall for their brain-washing. what is sad is why it just takes a crappy flash animation to hold back such things as facts and logic.

  7. ericleb01 says:

@SamBuchser I’d swear you never even listened to the video. Socialized health care DOES NOT eliminate the private option. You can pay to get your surgery as usual for shorter wait times; or if it’s not a life-threatening thing, get it for “free” and wait longer.

Years for simple surgeries? What are you smoking? The median is 4 weeks here in Canada with 82.2% waiting less than three months! And studies show that the wait can sometimes be BENEFICIARY to a patient.

    And who’s “their”?

  8. ericleb01 says:

@SamBuchser LMAO, you were in the trillions since the beginning of the 1900’s! That is the worst bullshit I’ve ever heard in my life! Your government, as I said to Tmac, rose from 3 TRILLION to 12 TRILLION in 25 years beginning in 1985.

  9. ericleb01 says:

@SamBuchser Your third comment is entirely bullocks. EVERYONE (except for you, apparently) KNOWS taxes are what the gov’t use to pay for things. That’s basic knowledge, because that’s what taxes are for! And the US IS in deep shit, and denying it is just foolish. Everyone is in shit right now, but your economy crisis is driving you down in debts more than anyone.

Please; I know ignorance is bliss, but don’t get carried away here.

  14. SamBuchser says:

@ericleb01 you’re right, ignorance is bliss. you shouldn’t be getting carried away… okay, i was mistaken, i was looking at state debt. but maybe i’m just missing something… where do taxes come from? clearly you’re not a working man if you don’t even know what happens to that 10% to 35% of your income each year. Ya know, Walter Cronkite said the same thing during the Vietnam War. Fact is, if it weren’t for thant sickly unAmerican attitude, all statistics pointed to us winning.
    their is europe

  15. ericleb01 says:

@SamBuchser I know where taxes come from (though, thankfully as a student, I get it all back… for now), but you have to realize that it’s literally taxes which allows the government to do _anything_. We have taxes ranging from 6% to 15% here in Canada (depending on the province) for a reason. You have low taxes? Fine, but don’t complain when your country goes into debt, because taxes, while annoying to pay, are essential.

And for some reason, most of you Americans are scared of them.

  16. SamBuchser says:

@ericleb01 Yes we Americans are scared of taxes; what they do is give power. We are Americans. We take a stand and hold our ground. WE are in charge of OURSELVES. WE make the choices we want to make, NOT BIG BROTHER. WE run the gov. THEY do NOT run US. yes, taxes are what allow the government to do _anything_. SCARY THOUGHT. they SHOULD NOT be able to do _anything_. we have a framed document stating just that.

  17. ericleb01 says:

@SamBuchser Here’s a tip then: you are a Democratic country. How about picking the correct president, for starters? You wanted Bush, you got the shit he came accompanied with. You wanted Obama as Democratic leader? You got the slow pace he came with.

And they don’t do anything with that money. A responsible government uses it correctly and efficiently. And I don’t know about you, but ours is doing just fine with it.

  18. SamBuchser says:

@ericleb01 here’s a hint for you; I’M A MINOR. I JUST TURNED 18 A MONTH AGO. I’ve only had the power to vote for a month, and had no say in the last two elections. and i disliked both candidates.
another thing; I LIKED BUSH. at least he wasn’t a communist. look at the “stuff” accompanying Obama: rev. wright? Frank Marshall Davis? ACORN? i mean really, an organization that SUPPORTS prostitution of minors?? get real; Obama is a terrible president. i didnt pick him. funny enough, you guys like him

  19. ericleb01 says:

@SamBuchser Lol, chill, I never targeted you specifically. I was speaking in a broad, general sense. Obama was chosen because of his literature level and his speeches. He was too young and should have waited a few years before being elected. I would have rather picked Clinton or someone else who was a candidate on the Democratic ballot.

But Bush, twice; that was the major issue.

  20. SamBuchser says:

@ericleb01 i’m just hoping Rice runs for president next year.

  21. FangsUpCobraFans says:

One issue: with the lack of
Competition, won’t the standard for healthcare go down? A fire is either out or it’s not. Health is a bit of a grey area

  22. kubaniski says:

@ericleb01 you have 6%-15%, we have from 10%-60% depending on income and the state in which a person lives. We understand that taxes are necessary, but the US gov spends more than we have and taxes us too much as it is.

  23. ericleb01 says:

@kubaniski Agh, sorry, it’s from 10% to 35% on average here. My bad, was thinking of sales tax, lol.

I don’t think many pay 60% in your country. But I can’t really vouch for that.

  24. kubaniski says:

@ericleb01 ohh my friend thats because you’ve never lived in California. and that doesn’t include sales taxes.

  25. ericleb01 says:

@kubaniski Lol, that sucks. Looked like a nice place to live :P
